lest anyone should misunderstand me
I don’t quote Hitler to praise the man or the legacy. And I don’t cite one of his references in speeches to Christianity to accuse the billion or so Christians around the world of collusion. I raise the spectre because I think when someone is running for public office and starts pointing an accusing finger at people and culture and labels them “unchristian” and therefore dangerous to “our way of life”, it’s time to worry. And that, to simply take them at their word, at face value, is irresponsible and dangerous. It’s a formula that seems to have traction on the Right in this election season. And it’s freaking me the fuck out. And I hope, in the name of all that’s good in the hearts of people, that it freaks the fuck out of more people - and quickly. It should. It really really should.
